We’re excited to welcome Chuy Avila as our new Español Pastor. Chuy has served as the interim pastor of our Spanish-speaking campus for 8 months, and his time of service has been remarkable! Based on the recommendation of our Lead Pastor, the Personnel Committee asked Chuy to become our permanent Español Pastor. After seeking the Lord, Chuy has accepted, and we’re looking forward to the future with him!

During his tenure, Chuy has led Cross City Español well. He values the Word of God, serves faithfully, and connects personally. He earned the trust of CCE’s people quickly, and his endearing style and heartfelt preaching have built a strong rapport.

Over the years, he’s seen great success in leading Spanish-speaking congregations nationwide. Chuy directed Hispanic Ministries for the Midland Baptist Association, then Hispanic Church Planting for the Tennessee Baptist Convention. For nearly 15 years, Chuy has served as the Español Director for the SBTC, where he networks with pastors and facilitates church plants. In his ministry career, he’s founded 6 new churches, served in multiple interim positions, and helped existing Spanish-speaking congregations grow.

He has been married to Maria for 43 years, and they have four adult children and 15 grandchildren. His ministry goals are to impact families by sharing the gospel with anyone who will listen, equip new church planters and leaders, and disciple new believers.

Chuy’s first day with us as the Español Pastor will be June 1. Until then, he’ll continue as our interim pastor as he completes his commitments at the SBTC. Join us in praying for him as he continues to lead and assumes his new permanent role.

*Our Personnel Committee and team have vetted the candidate for this Cross City ministry position and believe him to be fit for this role. If you have any specific concerns about this hire, please contact and .
