Celebrating Brother Bill

Thursday, September 19, 2024 • 10:00 AM

The Cross City Family announces the passing of our former pastor and hero of the faith, Dr. Bill Anderson. Dr. Anderson led our church from 1966 to 1975, then returned to lead us as our interim pastor from 2004 to 2006. His dynamic leadership, passion for God’s Word, and genuine care for people will be forever remembered and celebrated by the people of Cross City and all who knew him.

The church called Bill to be our pastor when he was only 29. Though he was young in the eyes of many, he led with great wisdom and courage. His faithfulness to God’s Word set a standard for the church. He recently said, “One of the things we did right was put the Bible in proper focus. We took the Bible seriously.” That remains true today as we stand on the shoulders of Dr. Anderson’s leadership.

His kindness toward others and genuine care are hallmarks of his ministry. As he led our church through a time of explosive growth, he remained known for staying connected to the individual members. His focus on discipleship raised up leaders who have influenced our church for decades. Much of who we are today—both in character and focus—began during his tenure.

Dr. Anderson left our church in 1975 to serve at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, Florida, which thrived under his leadership. When he returned to serve as our interim pastor in 2004, he led us to become debt-free and prepared us for a new era of ministry. He also served as an interim pastor in other churches, preparing them for their next step. Long-time friend Dr. Jimmy Draper says, “When Bill Anderson is in the room, you just feel like everything is going to be okay.”

We are saddened by the news of his passing and are praying for his family. We also know that Bill is rejoicing today with the Lord, and though he is no longer with us here, the mark of his influence is forever etched on our hearts. Join us in celebrating his life and thanking God for the countless people who are forever changed because of his influence.

You are invited to join his family on Thursday, September 19, at 10 am in the Cross City Church Worship Center as we celebrate his life together.
